The problem
The Eleventh Space designs high end residential and hospitality interiors, and the site had to feel like that work: one page, clean, nothing busy or cheap. Knot Studio designed it and brought me in as the WordPress developer on their team.
The design asked for a lot of motion. A handwritten intro, a full screen hero video, a custom cursor, an interactive gradient, split screen sections where the image stays put while the text scrolls past, and a work gallery that scrolls sideways. The usual way to get that on WordPress is a page builder and a stack of plugins, which is slow to load, fragile to edit and leaves the client unable to change a line of copy without risking the layout. There was also a fixed launch date of 1 October.
What I built
A custom block theme from scratch. No page builder, no starter theme, no build step. Every section of the design is its own block, so the client changes copy and swaps images in the normal WordPress editor and the layout holds. The only part that needs a developer is the loading screen.
The motion is plain JavaScript written for this site: the intro, the cursor, the gradient, the pinned split screen sections, the horizontal work gallery and a header that fixes itself once you scroll past the hero. Each piece respects reduced motion settings and degrades cleanly on mobile.
The contact form is Contact Form 7 underneath, but you would not know. It opens as a full screen overlay from the footer and puts you back exactly where you were when you close it. A small settings page holds the things the client wanted to control himself, such as how often returning visitors see the holding screen. Cookie consent runs through Complianz, so analytics and the Meta pixel only load once someone agrees.
Staging and live are separate sites and the theme deploys from GitHub, so every change was reviewed on staging before it went near the live site.
The outcome
Live on the launch date at theeleventhspace.com. Sign off from the client was three words and three exclamation marks. Spam protection and Meta lead tracking went in after launch without touching the design, and Knot Studio have brought me two more projects since.
What the client said
“Perfect, love it!!!”
